Compassionate, practical support to help you make sense of what you are going through and find a way forward that works for you.
Reaching out for counselling can feel like a big step and sometimes it can be difficult to find the words to explain why you are looking for support. Whatever brings you to counselling, whether you are looking for help with anxiety, grief, relationship issues, challenges at work or you simply want to feel differently I am here to offer you support and help you find a way to move forward with confidence and belief.
I’m Catharine, a BACP registered psychotherapist and coach based in Nottinghamshire. I offer counselling for individuals and couples, online. I recognise that your experience of what you are facing is unique to you, and I am able to draw on a range of different types of counselling approaches to find the right support for your particular needs. I help clients make sense of what they are experiencing, develop deeper self-awareness and build confidence in moving forward in a way that works for them.

I chose the name Alba Counselling for my practice because Alba means sunrise and signifies new light. Dawn follows even the darkest night and this can often be a metaphor for our feelings when things are tough. Working together my aim is to help you see your own version of light.

"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending."

You may be struggling with something specific, like anxiety, depression, grief, issues with your confidence or you may just feel that something isn’t right. With tailored therapy, we can work through this together.
Relationships can be challenging at times. You may be facing communication problems, issues with intimacy or adapting to changes in your relationship. Couples counselling can help you reconnect and work together to find a way forward.
Counselling provides you with a calm and safe space to step away from the stresses of daily life and explore your thoughts, your feelings or whatever is holding you back. There are no right or wrong answers in counselling, just the opportunity to work with a professional who can help you understand yourself better, why you feel the way you do or make the choices that you do. As your therapist, I am not here to fix you. I firmly believe that you are the expert in you. I am here to offer you fresh perspectives, to help you understand yourself better so you can unlock your potential and offer practical tools to support you moving forward.
You may be struggling day to day, dealing with the effects of anxiety, bereavement or loss or finding it difficult to manage a change or transition in your life. You may have lost your sense of purpose, find yourself feeling stuck or unable to move forward, or just disconnected from your true self.
Drawing on my previous career, I can also support you if you are dealing with work related issues, such as redundancy, tricky relationships, stress or burnout, all of which can have a huge impact on your home life, leaving you feeling drained and alone.
You don’t have to be in crisis to reach out for support. Just recognising that you may need some support is the biggest step in your journey to a better future.
With my corporate background, I understand the real pressures businesses and their people face.
I partner with organisations that want to actively support employee wellbeing but may not have a formal Employee Assistance Programme in place.
I offer flexible, confidential counselling services for your team. I am experienced in working within contracted arrangements, ensuring there is a clear understanding between the organisation and the individual around confidentiality, boundaries, and expectations. This creates a safe, ethical framework that supports both the employee and the employer.
If you’re looking for a proactive, people-centred way to support your employees’ wellbeing, I’d be happy to explore how we could work together.

You may be feeling a little daunted about the thought of therapy and possibly have questions you would like to discuss before committing to counselling. This is completely normal, and is why I offer a free 15-minute introductory call for us to have a conversation about what brings you to counselling and how I work. No obligation. It’s just a call to find out if we’re a good fit and if I am able to help.
